Look at these key points from a CNBC article : “KEY POINTS The advent of the gig economy and platforms that make it easy to find flexible work outside of business hours has nearly a third of workers maintaining a side hustle in addition to their regular jobs. Two-thirds of side hustlers say they took on a second job in order to have more spending money, and 56% do it to increase their savings, according to CreditLoan.com. Many side hustles involve long hours and put one’s full-time job at risk.” Starting and maintaining a side hustle is not always easy. It may not always be this cool entrepreneurial opportunity you thought you were working on. While side hustles are a great way to pursue your passion, build new skills and bring extra money, they do come with some challenges: Image Source 1. How to start your side activity?

After discovering what a side hustle was, you may be wondering how to get started on your new activities. You do not need investors or employees to get started. Just you and your motivation. You will probably start your new activity from your home. Image Source Most side hustle businesses start by providing the service or product to a few people around us. For example, if you speak French and sometimes translate documents for your workplace or friends and family, you may think about starting your own translation services on the side.  Or if you are always coaching your friends and family and giving them advice on personal development, start your coaching business.  Usually, people are encouraged to start by people close to them. If you are a coworker who is a great baker, you can encourage her to start posting her creation online to get started I came across some great advice on this article online written by Aliza Licht : “ Nicole Lapin...

I came across this video on Youtube  “Side hustle new norm for working Canadians: survey”  by CBC News that explains that one-third of Canadians have a side activity: People start a side hustle mainly to make more money when their full-time is not sufficient to pay their bills. But beyond the financial gain, there are a lot of other benefits you can gain. I have listed my top 3 below: 1.  Build multiple sources of incomes Image Source Having a side business means that you are making extra money.   You can take a trip with your family to a destination you always wanted to go to. You can save for a down payment and invest in your future home. We all have lists of things we would like to do if we had extra cash. Just think about the idea of being able to spend money on things you want without too much worry. And more money also means more flexibility 2. Pursue your passion I love planning and organizing. I also love travelling. I...

What is a side hustle?

Image
Image source I first heard the term “side hustle” about 5 years ago. My husband was invited to a panel to discuss and share his experience on the topic.  As long as I have known him, he always had a side IT business in addition to his full-time job: building websites, leading a cryptocurrency group or building a running community online. I quickly realized that this type of activity was called a side hustle, or a side job, or a side gig. After googling "side hustle", I came across two  definitions that I like : “A side hustle is not a part-time job. A side hustle is not the gig economy. It is an asset that works for you. Picking up a few extra hours at the factory or at the coffeehouse is not a side hustle. Jumping on TaskRabbit or Uber when you feel like it isn't a side hustle, either.” “A side job, also informally called a side hustle or side gig, is an additional job that a person takes in addition to their primary job in order to supplement their i...
